Description

This is a 72 page PRINT and TEACH resource to get your mathematics program off to a great start. In this download you will have everything you need to teach an entire Place Value unit. Students will learn about the building blocks of numbers in a series of 10 lessons. This unit can be printed out into a student booklet to bring independence to your junior learners or shared onto your Google Classroom!

This unit covers the following concepts:

- Place value of whole and decimal numbers

- Ways to represent numbers (standard, word, expanded form, base 10)

- Digit Values to millions

- Comparing Numbers, whole and decimal (greater than/less than, number line and line it up strategy)

- Numbers of Magnitude (BIG numbers) to millions

- Factors and Multiples

- Prime and Composite Numbers

A lot of students may find themselves struggling as they get into the higher levels of mathematics. One of the assumptions of mastering math is that you just need to memorize the formula and plug in the numbers. But to truly excel in any field, you must also understand the concept and the reasoning behind it so that you can play around with it. Once a child has a good understanding of place value, he or she will have an easier time with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, expanded notation, etc. This Place Value Unit teaches students the “why” behind the basics of mathematics, beyond memorization and repetition.
