Description
This is a bilingual bundle of the Place Value Math Mystery, The Case of the Puzzled Pirate - 3rd Grade Edition. This duo bundle includes English and Spanish versions of this activity.
Students must review place value math skills to help the puzzled pirate find the treasure! First, completing math problems will unlock clues. Then, students must use their powers of deduction to narrow down the list of locations to find the treasure.

⭐Math Skills Required to Unlock Clues
There are five clues to crack to solve the mystery:
- Clue 1: Converting from Expanded Form
- Clue 2: Value of the Underlined Digit
- Clue 3: Comparing Numbers (Circle the greater number)
- Clue 4: Ordering Numbers (ascending order)
- Clue 5: Rounding Numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
(Please note that all of the numbers in the questions of this place value mystery version are less than 1,000.)

Suggestion: I recommend pacing this activity by giving students one clue at a time. Once the whole class has completed a clue, move on to the next clue within the same lesson or the next math session. New math content presented? Make a lesson out of it by modeling the math before diving into the clue. I like to say, "We must learn something new before attempting the next clue."

How long will this activity take?
The time to complete will vary anywhere between 30mins - 2 hours. The time to complete mainly depends on how familiar your students are with the math mystery format and how difficult they find math skills covered in the particular mystery. Please check the math skills outlined in the clues above to help determine suitability for your class.
