Place Value - Forms of Numbers Error Analysis

Error analysis problems are a great way to check your students' understanding of a concept. Instead of just solving the same problems again and again on a worksheet, they have to use their critical thinking skills to determine where, if anywhere, the example student(s) went wrong. This forces them to think outside of the box and develop a deeper understanding of the WHY behind the procedures and processes.

This download includes 15 error analysis problems (3 on each page) that practice converting between standard form, word form, and expanded form. On my answer key, I have provided an example of a student response, but other answers may be acceptable as well.

Looking to save paper? The last page of work contains the same 15 questions on one piece of paper – great for task cards or gluing into notebooks!

This product perfectly aligns with 4th grade Common Core standard: 4.NBT.A.2: Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.

These tasks would be great to use during guided math centers, whole-group centers, or independent practice.
