Description

This resources is for you and your students! Help your students understand the place and value of digits in multi-digit numbers with this place-value chart banner poster set. This is a great visual aid to help students make sense of large numbers and to keep posted in your classroom all year round to support your teaching and your students’ learning when it comes to the base-ten number system.

Almost all mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplcation, division, exponents and fractions build on the understanding of place value, therefore making it an essential mathematical concept.

These posters can be displayed based on the size of the numbers your students are working with, and you can add to the display as the year progresses and students become curious and begin to work with larger numbers.

Use place value understanding to round whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100.
Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
