Pixel art is very popular. It as interesting art form, that comes from the original video games of the 1970s. A pixel is a small square in a larger image. Some artists use only small squares to create a piece of art. BUT...
In this project, your students are going to choose one pixel image. In just a few steps, they learn how to ‘DEPIXELIZE’ and create some original artwork!
You will work with textures and gradient textures.
This is a motivating and creative project for your students.
Level:
- Grade 4 and up.
- Junior High and High school.
Technique:
- Drawing

- Textures
- (Gradient textures) Not in the primary program
Materials:
- Printing paper (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Photocopies of pixel drawings (pg 14 to 23)
- Pixel sheets (pg 34 to 37)
- Pencil
- Eraser
- Black marker
- Coloured markers
- Black pencil crayons
- Tempera paint (or water colours)
- Small paint brushes and water
- Glue and scissors
- Coloured cardboard (optional)
