What educators are saying

This resource didn't excellent job explaining the difference between volume pitch which is a topic that my fifth graders typically struggled with. It is highly interactive, which is something my students appreciated.

Description

Are you looking for engaging interactive practice with pitch and volume of sound? This digital sort will provide your students with tons of practice. Quick and easy setup simply print recording sheet and send the link to students.

Students sort different sounds, to practice their understanding of sound energy, in a Google Slides activity. 10 slides of practice. Students drag moveable pieces of different sounds in different scenarios. They drag the pieces to landing spots, such as high pitch, low pitch, loud volume, and quiet volume.

Goals:

-Students will be able to know the difference between pitch and volume.

-Students will know the differences between low pitch and high pitch.

-Students will know the speed of sound through different mediums.

Recording sheet also included to encourage students to show their work and think through each slide. Printable and digital version.

Answer Keys: Either delete the last slides of the slideshow before sharing with students or keep them on for students to check their work.

Some of the sounds and pitches may be debatable with students. This is a great opportunity to have those scientific discussions. Have students support their claims with reasoning if they disagree with something on the answer key.

Here's what you'll get in the Calculating Speed Partner Game

  • 10 slides of practice
  • Recording sheet (print and digital)
  • Answer keys
  • Teaching directions

****We do have this included as aBoom card activity. They are the same slides***

Your students will begin to feel confident in their knowledge of pitch vs volume. They will quickly master the differences and vocab words.

This is a great activity for those days you need independent work or sub plans. Works great in rotations, centers or station work.
