Description

in brief: STEM lab kit

Build a pin hole camera & learn rules of geometrical optics.

SIMPLE materials, no mess, 100% success!*

What's Inside:

1) printable students guide for building a working pinhole box

2) extra slides with explanation (print or screen in class)

3) question sheet and answer key

learning utilities and goals:

  • Building manual with visual aids
  • Date collecting and manipulation: a structured inquiry
  • Learning how to use geometric methods for tracing images
  • In some classes, I spiced the lesson with a little "competition" in the end checking which pinhole camera works the best in terms of quality of vision and zoom function.

Students who love hands-on experiences will love this science craft!

*I advise you to build one working model yourself before instructing your class on the process. I also advise you don't show them the model so that they will be surprised when they use it the first time. :)

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
NGSS4-PS4-2
Develop a model to describe that light reflecting from objects and entering the eye allows objects to be seen. Assessment does not include knowledge of specific colors reflected and seen, the cellular mechanisms of vision, or how the retina works.
NGSS1-PS4-2
Make observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects can be seen only when illuminated. Examples of observations could include those made in a completely dark room, a pinhole box, and a video of a cave explorer with a flashlight. Illumination could be from an external light source or by an object giving off its own light.
