Description

This unit helps elementary students understand the concept of "program music" by introducing the famous piece: "Pictures at an Exhibition" by M. Mussorsky (orchestrated by M. Ravel).

This piece encourages students to listen to the music to guess what the picture/painting is of. When available, the actual paintings are shared. Question prompts and audio files are included (audio files are embedded by clicking on the title). Please feel free to include movement and dramatization of the pieces as well! I break this into a 2 part unit (3 pieces a session/40 minutes each session).

Movements included:
*Promenade
*Tuileres
*Byldo
*Ballet of the Unhatched Chicken
*Catacombs
*Gnomus
*The Hut of Baba Yaga
