Description

I created a color picture dictionary to go along with A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, one of the books from EngageNY's 7th grade curriculum. My ELL / ENL students were having tremendous difficulty with some of the vocabulary, and this resource truly helped them.

★ Each entry has the word or phrase, a correlating image, and the page number.

★ Words are grouped by chapter and are written in order of appearance from the book.

★ Includes 129 entries on 10 pages of a Word doc.

★ The pages are editable, so you could theoretically make changes; however, it would be challenging/time-consuming to do so. (It's not as tricky to add words if they're at the end of the dictionary.)

Note: If you're concerned about using up your color ink, here are some strategies I've used: 1) If you don't have a ton of ELL students, print a copy for each one and have them treat it like gold so they don't lose it. 2) Only print a class set, so the students have to return the packet at the end of the period. They can also draw their own vocabulary examples in their notebooks each day as they read to recall what was in the packet. 3) If your students have internet access in school and/or at home, share the packet on Google Classroom! (It's such a wonderful free resource.) 4) Print a class set of color copies and photocopy black and white packets for all the students to take home if doing any reading there.
