Description

I love reading picture books with my kids! Not only do we share a good story, but students are also motivated to try new strategies in their own writing. From character development to figurative language to dialog to mechanics, we learn so much from the amazing books that we read aloud in class.

I created this project to give students the opportunity to explore any picture book of their choice. In 5th grade, we use this activity as a way to reflect on all of the reading and writing standards we've mastered, such as:

  • Story Elements
  • Citations
  • Figurative Language
  • Summarizing
  • Theme
  • Characters
  • Meaningful Quotes
  • Vocabulary
  • Writer's Purpose
  • Point of View

The best part? Students are inspired by professional writers while having the opportunity to enjoy a good book. Completed Picture Book Texplorations and book covers create an engaging bulletin board display as well. Students will love sharing their TEXPLORATIONS!

This resources is also part of a discounted growing bundle!

Happy Reading!
