Piano Progress Assessment Form

To all my colleagues, piano teachers!

Having worked as a piano teacher for the past ten years, I see how important it is to give a positive and informative feedback to your students of any age. The feedback, that is not intimidating and criticizing, but motivating and showing them the way to grow.

In my studio I teach academic year (from September to June) divided into three trimesters. In the end of each trimester I offer my feedback in various forms. One of them you will find below.
This form has been a great hit with both the parents of little ones and adult learners too as it shows the development of each skill in continuum. It gives information on the eight main piano player skills as criteria for evaluation (e.g. Posture, Memorization etc) and the level of their mastery at the moment. Each category has a clear explanation of what to be expected, easy to understand for anyone without the music background. The form is structured in a way to make the teacher’s life easier when filling in numerous reports: just highlight the current “development level” with a corresponding color.
The content is easily editable, it’s not 100% fit for every student, but the frame
is there.

Note: I keep the form on google disc for an easy access, making minor changes
online, downloading and sending a soft copy for each of my students.
