Description
This composition project teaches students to create a 16-measure piece for piano with four phrases using the principles of repetition, variation, and contrast. It includes non-chord tones, including neighbor tone, passing tone, escape tone, and anticipation. Students also use the I, IV, and V7 chords in the key of C major. This composition activity provides scaffolded worksheets for students in class piano or piano lab.
Developing composition and creativity skills is a great way to engage students in artistic literacy as well as exercise students’ ability to imagine, investigate, construct, and reflect.
