What educators are saying

This is a great resource that combines knowledge of pi and circles with logic. Students both work the math while also solving the logic puzzle. I used this as review and bonus points.

Description

Just in time for Pi Day! This puzzle two pack has two challenging and engaging logic puzzles to enhance any review on radius, diameter and area of circles.

Set includes 2 Logic Puzzles.

  • Whose Pie Is It, Anyway? is a traditional 2 tier matrix grid puzzle. Your students will match each person with one pie and also the area of the pie using process of elimination, critical reading and deductive reasoning. Some of the clues only give a radius or diameter so calculation is a must! 3.14 is used for Pi in this puzzle. This puzzle comes with two different versions, one has clipart specifically for Pi Day, the other is the same puzzle but generic clipart so it may be used any time of year.

  • Circle of Pie requires convergent and divergent thinking as they use the clues, and the locations of the pies to determine what radius belongs to each pie. The second puzzle comes in two versions, first the traditional and the second version has all the pie and radii possibilities listed, so it is easy for a student to cross off what is NOT true. This is a great for easy differentiation. :)

If you have used any other Prickly Pear Puzzles, your students will find these just a bit more challenging, this according to my freshmen class! The challenges are designed for the 8-12 grades, but it is always tricky assigning a level to a logic puzzle as it depends on the individual student's previous experiences and critical thinking skills. Math savvy 7th graders with logic puzzle experience could easily do these as well.

Answer keys included and given in grid form and also list form for easy checking!
