Description
Your physical and chemical changes lab just got elevated to potions class! In this Professor Snape inspired lesson students will conduct lab experiments in which they will discern the outcome as a mixture, solution, physical change or chemical change. Definitions for physical and chemical changes are included in the resource for students to reference.
This lab includes 3 student stations and 1 teacher-led station. The teacher-led station is a demonstration that will blow them away as a mixture shoots up and overflows! Prepare for squeals of joy and an unforgettable experience as the kids see the colorful “potions” rise, overflow, use a magical wand to separate mixtures and more. There are some supplies that will need to be purchased, but they can be saved and stored for future science labs! All of the supplies needed for the experiments can be purchased at your local stores.
Students will be able to:
1. Discuss the physical properties of matter
2. Identify separating mixtures
3. Understand the difference between physical and chemical changes
What’s included?
1. Four lab activities for mixtures, solutions, physical and chemical changes
2. Station instruction cards that explain the experiment as well as the difference between physical and chemical changes
3. A student handout or lab report
4. Teacher Answer key
