Description

Students see a completed photosynthesis diagram, showing the reactants and products of this chemical reaction. The drag and drop boxes have both the written word, as well as the molecular formulas to help clarify this for learners. Through numerous additional drag and drop slides students repeat the placement of reactants and products on various producers. The last slide allows students to create their own photosynthesis diagram using the drag and drop feature as well as a plant of their choice.

While the first slide is a clear example the slides could also be modified by moving a few of the boxes and have students drag the remainder.

This has been really successful when using Google Classroom, where every student receives their own copy. Slides could also be printed out and used as a gluing activity or simply a quick formative assessment by having learners write in the reactants and products.

NGSSMS-LS2-3
Develop a model to describe the cycling of matter and flow of energy among living and nonliving parts of an ecosystem. Emphasis is on describing the conservation of matter and flow of energy into and out of various ecosystems, and on defining the boundaries of the system. Assessment does not include the use of chemical reactions to describe the processes.
NGSS5-LS2-1
Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment. Emphasis is on the idea that matter that is not food (air, water, decomposed materials in soil) is changed by plants into matter that is food. Examples of systems could include organisms, ecosystems, and the Earth. Assessment does not include molecular explanations.
