Love this resource! Great if you need a quick sub plan but a nice way to get students up and moving and thinking about ways to look at photography.

Description

This is perfect for high school photography students first learning about the Elements and Principles of Design or as a review.

✔can work for visual arts, photography, comm tech etc.

✔can be presented on Google Classroom, printed out for displays etc.

✔can be done around the classroom/school environment

✔good for sub plans

It asks them to complete two parts:

  1. Exploring Subjects Through Camera Angles - it has a list of subjects they can find in the classroom and around the school easily, and asks them to shoot them. They hand in a digital contact sheet (easy to Google to find instructions on how to do this, and they're KEY for the creative process) and their 5 best photos

2. One Subject Through the Elements and Principles of Design - they pick one of
the really basic subjects and explore it through each of the elements and
principles, so it really forces them to examine these closely! They hand in a contact
sheet for this (sometimes I get them to print and frame them on bristol board for

display - whatever works!)

Also included is a bonus page, really simple, covering camera angles and the elements and principles - just in case your students need it!

NOTES:

-I get them to do this in groups, so they have awesome discussions around the elements and principles

-I give them "Photo Class Passes" for them to leave the class in groups of 3 with our digital cameras (their phones will work too) to shoot this over two periods - if you limit their time, they'll work really well!

-I give them a quick diagnostic assessment mark /10 for these

Enjoy! A simple project but it works really well.

UPDATED WITH A PDF ON THE PURPOSE OF CONTACT SHEETS.
