Toothy® Task Kits- an original idea from Angie Olson at ©Lucky Little Learners, LLC.

This particular Toothy® set has prompts on the back of each card for a teacher, aide, or peer to facilitate. This makes it a unique and engaging way to practice phonological awareness and phonemic awareness skills. Answers are also included on the backs of the cards. Teach the rules for Toothy® once at the beginning of the year, then simply switch out the topic each week and use the activity all year!

Your students will be able to strengthen their phonological awareness abilities through the use of these Task Cards! There are a total of 45 skill sets with 24 task cards each included in this bundle. All of these are written with kindergarten, first-grade, and second-grade students in mind.

Answers can be written on a Toothy mat, recording sheet, marker board, or notebook paper. Answers can also be shared verbally without writing anything down! This activity can be done with an aide, teacher, with a partner, small group, or whole group.

HOW TO PLAY:

Each student gets a Toothy mat and dry erase marker. Students will take turns choosing a card. The teacher, aide, or peer will read the prompt. Each student who is playing the game will answer the question and respond verbally, then write the answer on their Toothy mat or dry erase board. When all who are playing have answered the question, they compare their answers and then turn the card over to check to see if their answer is correct. Those who have a correct answer get to draw a tooth in Toothy’s mouth on their mat. If the student’s answer is incorrect, they do not draw a tooth and those who got the answer correct must explain how they got to the correct answer. Then the next student draws the next card and the process is repeated. The game is over once all the cards have been answered. The student with the most teeth in Toothy’s mouth is the winner of the game.
