Description

Philosophical Chairs is an engaging AVID and best practice strategy, where students challenge peers’ thinking by using respectful dialogue, evidence for claims, prior knowledge, logical reasoning, and persuasion. This includes everything you need to host Philosophical Chairs in your classroom. It can be used over and over again for all topics and in all subjects. Present the overview presentation with the class on the SMART Board and then share the editable student graphic organizers and reflection slides with students through Google Classroom or with the link.

Standards Addressed:

CCRA.SL.3-Evaluate a speaker’s point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric.

CCRA.R.8-Delineate and evaluate the argument and specific claims in a text, including the validity of the reasoning as well as the relevance and sufficiency of the evidence

CCRA.SL.4-Present information, findings, and supporting evidence such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
