Phases of Matter Root Beer Floats:

This lesson will have your students fully engaged and identifying all the phases of matter while they make a root beer float. The powerpoint presentation takes you through how to make the float with your students with step by step photographs. The powerpoint presentation includes discussion questions asking students to identify if the ingredient is a solid, liquid or gas. There are two worksheets included. Both worksheets would be used after making the floats. The first worksheet asks students to identify the ingredient as solid, liquid, gas. The second worksheet is a coloring page (there is one easier version for students who can't draw and a harder version for students who can). This worksheet asks students to draw their root beer float and then color the solid, liquid, gas various colors according to the key. This lesson is super for special education students and a fun and easy hands on lesson that my students absolutely loved.

Make sure to check for food allergies prior to doing this lesson and also keep in mind students who may be lactose intolerant.

Smartboard Fun: Sorting Solids & Liquids - Phases of Matter

Are you studying phases of matter with your Special Education students and need some fun interactive lessons? Try this lesson out. I made it for my Special Education kiddos while we were doing a unit on the phases of matter and studying solids, liquids and gases.

This interactive smartboard lesson incorporates answering yes/no questions as well as using adjectives to describe a picture. Students will pop a balloon to reveal the picture. Then they will sort words by whether or not the word describes the picture/object. For example the students will pop the balloon and reveal water. Students will then sort words such as: solid, liquid, gas, wet, tall, dry, etc. into "yes" for if it describes it and "no" for if it doesn't. Words will be absorbed into the vortex if it is correct and bounce back if it isn't.

This is a great way to work on answering "wh" questions, yes/no questions, as well as incorporating categories and descriptions into one lesson. My speech teacher would be so proud ;)

    I Spy States of Matter

It is an "I spy" game where students can look at a picture and identify the states of matter. Students can circle the items they find and then record what they are on the recording sheet. Super simple, fun, and the only prep is making copies of the recording page. For no prep, simply have the students circle and identify the states of matter on each scenario page
