What educators are saying

Extremely fun game. My students were a little uncertain at first, but they quickly got the hang of it and their arguments became more persuasive as a result.
This game is the best! The kids were so engaged...they got a little loud, but they were all having so much fun trying to persuade each other. It was a wonderful introduction into argumentative writing.

Description

This persuasive writing introduction activity will have students laughing while exploring the concepts of perspective, point of view, and how to convince someone of something. Before a persuasive writing assignment, play this game to make sure your students understand the best way to persuade their audience.

How would you convince a firefighter he should buy your tree? One creative student convinced him he could use it to practice setting and putting out fires! How could you convince a chef he needed a glass slipper? See what your students can come up with.

When students begin thinking through how to convince their audience to buy something, they gain an excellent understanding of how to write a persuasive letter or essay.

This game is best played in groups of 5-6 students. We loved it in our third grade class, but students all the way through high school will enjoy thinking critically about how to sell silly items to someone who doesn’t really need them.
