Description

This presentation aligns with Chapter 21 in the Perfection Learning textbook Projects in Speech Communication, but can easily stand alone. It first presents scenarios in which students analyze why or why not they themselves would be persuaded before examining an audience-based persuasive strategy. It examines persuasive purposes and motivations, both positive and negative, and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. The presentation opens up the question of ethics for discussion: is it right to use other people's needs for your own gains? What is the difference between persuasion and manipulation? The presentation then introduces Aristotle's concepts of logos, ethos, and pathos before examining the concept of logical argument using increasingly more complex examples of premises and conclusions. It then transitions into logical fallacies, a prezi available for free here: https://prezi.com/vusfpeia0o4n/copy-of-logical-fallacies/
