Personal Narrative: Writing the Introduction PowerPoint

This PowerPoint can provide a much needed scaffolding tool for students, as they begin the process of writing their introduction. After choosing a topic and brainstorming their selected topic, students can often struggle with how to begin this personal writing piece. I have provided questions that will explicitly direct students with engaging their readers through a hook and/ or lead, as well as what belongs in the remainder of the introduction. Sample introductions are provided that allow students to see how varying approaches can lead to successful introductions. I have used this PowerPoint with fourth and sixth grade students and they have had a lot of success in writing their introductions. The introductory paragraph often creates the most resistance, as students are unsure on how to get started after they have their selected topic.
