Description

The Personal Narrative writing resource includes two pages: The Sentence Starters AND a blank Graphic Organizer.

1. The Personal Narrative Sentence Starters - A chart designed to help students know how to start each paragraph of their personal narrative written composition. It is conveniently separated in a color-coded graphic organizer by Introduction, Rising Action, Problem/Conflict, Solution, and Conclusion. Each section has unique sentence stems. This at-a-glance chart is designed to help them get started with ideas. Kids who struggle with where to start now have sentence stems they can "plug and play".

2. The Personal Narrative Graphic Organizer - This single-page graphic organizer uses the same color-coded sections as the Sentence Starters to help students plan their ideas for writing. Students are meant to list ideas for writing on this page before they begin their rough draft.

Students who struggle with writing often have trouble narrowing their focus. These same kids excel in math, where there is a formula for finding the solution. It is my hope that these sentence starters give them a writing formula for including a hook, describing the setting, mood, and transitioning from the problem to the solution to the conclusion.
