This Home Buying Project is a comprehensive and easy to implement activity. As real-world as you can get! A GREAT lesson for a Personal Finance or Family and Consumer Science (FACS) class.
Students will do the following:
- Discover what price of a home they can afford to purchase given their career choice.
- Calculate the monthly payment and total cost of the loan over the life of the loan.
- Furnish and supply their home with a budget.
- Calculate the down payment and closing costs of their home.
- Choice to print and display in your classroom!!!

The student file has a step-by-step digital guide through the project that is user-friendly and includes valuable links to fabulous online tools for the home buyer.
My students were so engaged and found this project to be their favorite activity.
Students select a home from one of the many styles! They LOVE selecting one that is their “Vibe”.
Monthly payment information, total investment, down payment amount, and closing costs are displayed in easily fillable areas on the project file. The ‘My Home’ File offers a budget and prompts to make furnishing and supplying their home engaging and FUN!
