Description

This is a packet of worksheets designed to help elementary students write their very first 5 paragraph personal essay in a step-by-step fashion. It strictly follows the writing process and teaches students about organizational methods like mind mapping, the hamburger, and outlining. They will also learn how to identify and create good introduction paragraphs with thesis statements and conclusion sentences. It focuses heavily on the importance of details as a method of painting a picture for the reader. There are sections with self and peer editing assignments, foldables for their interactive notebooks, vocabulary flashcards, and more. Throughout the packet it refers back to a sample essay given at the beginning, for ease of understanding the individual parts.

I designed this for use in my international classroom, and got spectacular results. It is useful for ESL students, native English speakers, as well as for children who have a fear of writing. The essay writing is broken up into sections, so they won't be daunted by the task. The assignment is easily differentiated and high achievers can write more than the required minimum.

Besides the step-by-step guidance, explanation, and creation of the essay via the writing process, this packet includes:

-Editing Marks Foldable
-Parts of an Essay Foldable
-Editing Worksheet (a real student letter)
-Vocabulary Flashcards
-Grading Rubric
-All answer keys when needed
