What educators are saying

I used this for students to read if they were struggling with understanding the Periodic Table. Great information that was easy for students to read.
Students were very engaged in learning about the periodic table families. The text and fill-in-the-blank activity compliment coloring the table families wonderfully.

Description

Do you need a differentiated worksheet, notes, and informational text that your students can use to gather information and color the modern periodic table? You can use this resource in chemistry or physical science as an activity or project where kids read a nonfiction article about the periodic table of the elements, complete notes, and color the periodic table based on the groups and families learned. The differentiated coloring pages, reading passage, and notes pages are perfect for use as a printable during classroom instruction or for distance learning at home. Boost student engagement by incorporating guided reading comprehension activities and active reading tasks. I've even shared some ideas with you in the how to guide of the resource. When the students complete the activity, they will have a periodic table perfect for use as a poster or in an interactive notebook. Need it digital? Access the version already created for you or create your own using the TpT Digital Activities tool.

Included: 8 differentiated (see note) versions of the worksheet, 3 differentiated notes pages, 2 differentiated informational text articles, answer keys, how to guide

NGSSHS-PS1-1
Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms. Examples of properties that could be predicted from patterns could include reactivity of metals, types of bonds formed, numbers of bonds formed, and reactions with oxygen. Assessment is limited to main group elements. Assessment does not include quantitative understanding of ionization energy beyond relative trends.
NGSSHS-PS1-2
Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties. Examples of chemical reactions could include the reaction of sodium and chlorine, of carbon and oxygen, or of carbon and hydrogen. Assessment is limited to chemical reactions involving main group elements and combustion reactions.
