Description

This journal includes writing prompts for every chapter of Percy Jackson and the Olympians The Lightening Thief. They are creative and thought provoking writing prompts that relate to the plots and themes of each chapter in the novel. Included are narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive topics. Each journal page also includes vocabulary words from each chapter that students should challenge themselves to use.

While reading the novel with my students, I use this journal after we have completed each chapter. Once we finish a chapter, they write their journal and use the vocabulary that is suggested. I require them to use at least three words, and challenge them to use more, giving extra credit if they can use all of the vocabulary words featured.

These prompts challenge students to use critical thinking skills, vocabulary, background knowledge, knowledge of Greek mythology, and their own life experiences.
