What educators are saying

This material was a great parallel to Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. I like to teach Percy while I am teaching Mary. This is a great selection with good material.

Description

Percy Bysshe Shelley claimed that “poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.” For him, creativity and activism were inextricably intertwined, which is particularly evident in his famous poem, “Ode to the West Wind.” In this lesson set include everything you'll need to teach your students the following poems:

  • “Ode to the West Wind”
  • “Mont Blanc”
  • “Ozymandias”

You’ll find two versions of each poem—one with line-by-line detailed annotations of each poem for you to use as you teach, and one version without annotations that you can copy and hand out to your students.

The lesson concludes with a writing prompt—What’s Your Message, which encourages students to think about what issues matter most to them.

This pack includes detailed lecture notes with a complete analysis of each poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley, plus an accompanying PowerPoint presentation, and handouts. You'll get:

  • 40+ page lecture notes with pictures of each PowerPoint slide embedded at the appropriate spot so you’ll know what part of the presentation to show.
  • 70+ slide PowerPoint Presentation
  • How to Read a Poem handout
  • Romanticism Characteristics handout
  • Writing Prompt—What’s Your Message?
  • Copies of each poem—a “clean” copy for your students and a detailed annotation for you.
