What educators are saying

My grade 2s last year loved this project. Open-ended and provides choice for students to take it any direction they please! Thank you.

Description

This is a fun, imaginative and engaging project to use as a performance assessment for a unit on Patterns.

In the assignment students must pretend they are an architect and design a city that contains various types of patterns. Students must include repeating patterns, increasing patterns, and patterns that use skip counting. Students are able to demonstrate their knowledge using numbers and pictures!

What is included when you download?

-Two versions of an assignment handout (pick your favorite) including a construction contract for the students to use as a checklist while they design their cities

-A project rubric

-Pictures with examples of student work

-A powerpoint presentation with a digital example you can use and manipulate to demonstrate how to draw a city blueprint.

*This assignment and project rubric is linked to the Alberta Program of Studies curriculum outcomes. This project is designed for Grade 2 but could be applicable to Grades 1-3.
