See why over 2,500 teachers are using these coordinate plane notes in their classrooms!

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “This lesson was very engaging for students and easy to use. I liked having the challenge in the packet for the students who grasped the concept more easily.” -Julie D.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ”Our curriculum just over complicated this concept, so I loved this resource that was more straight forward and engaging for my students!” -McKayla L.

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “These practice skill sheets were a game-changer in my class. This is one of the best products I've purchased, and would highly recommend it to others.” -Mandy H.

How can I use these Patterns on the Coordinate Plane notes?

  • Supplement your core curriculum
  • Reteach or remediation unit
  • Small group math intervention
  • Tutoring or homeschool
  • Test-prep

What can I expect to find in this “Plotting Ordered Pairs to Create Patterns” lesson?

  • Use a rule to generate an x/y table
  • Turn the x/y table into ordered pairs
  • Plotting ordered pairs on the coordinate plane (quadrant 1 only)
  • Connect the points to form a line
  • Compare and contrast different lines made by different rules
  • Later in the lesson, students do this process in reverse!  Given a line on a coordinate plane, students find the ordered pairs, create an x/y table and then determine the rule

What does Sally’s “gradual release model” entail?

  • Sally’s lessons follow an “I Do, We Do, You Do” format.  A math concept is introduced whole group, students then practice with a partner, and finish with independent work time.  This deliberate scaffolding keeps students from feeling defeated or frustrated!
  • Sally’s packets also build slowly in difficulty.  We meet students where they are, regardless of level.  As students gain confidence, the problems get progressively harder.  Not all students will complete all problems and that is by design!
  • Each packet finishes with a “Challenge Page” for anyone who needs something extra!  Multiple pages of practice are included in every packet to avoid early finishers.

This Patterns on the Coordinate Plane lesson is common core aligned to 5.G.2 (problem-solving in quadrant one of the coordinate plane) & 5.OA.3 (plotting ordered pairs to create patterns)

In addition, the instructional guide is jam-packed with teaching hacks and best practices for plotting ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.  There is also a “Misconceptions” section that allows you to be one step ahead of mistakes students are most likely to make!

Generate two numerical patterns using two given rules. Identify apparent relationships between corresponding terms. Form ordered pairs consisting of corresponding terms from the two patterns, and graph the ordered pairs on a coordinate plane. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 0, and given the rule “Add 6” and the starting number 0, generate terms in the resulting sequences, and observe that the terms in one sequence are twice the corresponding terms in the other sequence. Explain informally why this is so.
Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate).
Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.
