What educators are saying

This is a fantastic way to check in on where your students are with understanding parts of speech. My kiddos were so engaged and trying their hardest, so I feel like we all won--I got to see them working on parts of speech to the best of their abilities, and they had an absolute BLAST!
I used this escape room for early finishers in my sub plans. It was perfect because it kept them busy in a meaningful, engaging way without creating extra work for me when I was sick! THANK YOU

Description

Facilitating your parts of speech review doesn't have to be a bore! With this grammar escape room, your students will love trying to crack the codes while reviewing the 8 parts of speech. Each breakout task offers an interactive and memorable way for students to demonstrate understanding.

Check out the preview for a closer look!

What Parts of Speech Review Tasks Are Included?

  • Define it! - Students will match each part of speech to the appropriate definition.
  • Identify it! - Students will identify the part of speech for a given word within a sentence.
  • Sort it! - Students will read a cluster of words and determine what part of speech they are.
  • Map it! - Students will work through a maze by identifying what part of speech would complete the sentence.

What grade level is this ELA escape room designed for?

This grammar escape room was designed for 6th-grade ELA.

Depending on the skill level of your students, it may be appropriate for 5th and 7th graders. Plus, the questions and tasks are editable, so you may be able to adjust them to better fit your needs.

Please thoroughly review the description & preview to determine its appropriateness for your students!

How does the grammar escape room work?

  • The printable version requires about 15-20 minutes to prep
  • I recommend setting up four stations in your classroom - one for each breakout.
  • To prevent students from bottlenecking at a station, I recommend providing 3-4 copies of the breakout task at each station.
  • The digital version is housed on Google Slides & Google Forms
  • I recommend spending 15 minutes watching the how-to video and completing each task yourself before assigning it to students.

► You can use this escape room with paper only, digital only, or a combination of the two. I’ve included directions for ALL three methods!

► Your purchase will contain a PDF that includes all the necessary printable items and digital links for your parts of speech escape room.

► Your purchase will also contain an editable PowerPoint if you wish to change or adjust the questions or tasks!

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Katherine said, “When my coteacher and I wanted to begin a more advanced grammatical concept, it was clear that the students didn’t remember basic parts of speech. We needed a quick review to jog their memory, and this was a fun and engaging way to do just that!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Webb’s Wonder Emporium said, “My students had a blast with this escape room and the included suggestions of timers and addition of music made it so much more fun! It took the students a while to complete and challenged them to work hard instead of not being engaged in class. We loved this resource!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Alecia said, “Loved this escape room! It was easy to prepare, easy to set up, and easy to grade their responses. They completed it within a range of 25-35 minutes. Excellent review for parts of speech!”

TECHNICAL SUPPORT:

Video walk-throughs are included! I walk you through setting up and breaking out of each task with both printable and digital versions.

If you assign the Google activities and your students receive an "Access Denied" error message, your district has blocked students from opening Google files owned by someone outside your district. You can solve this by making a "teacher copy" of the activities, then embedding your document links within the Google form.
