Participation Rubric

This is an easy-to-use rubric that allows teachers and students to collaborate on creating a participation grade. I take notes in the margins of my lesson plans on who is late, has trouble cooperating, etc. After each class, I go through the participation sheets and check off each student (this takes about one minute). On Fridays, I give students their participation sheets at the top of class and have them grade themselves on overall effort and participation. I add up the scores at the end of each week and note them in the box in the upper right corner of each table. This helps me to be a bit more objective about my participation grades, and also helps students to take ownership of their class behavior and participation.
