What educators are saying

A very helpful resource to help transition students into paragraph writing and developing their writing
This was helpful when teaching my teaching paragraph writing. Thank you and will use this again when I can.

Description

Common Core wants students to write multiple paragraphs but before they can do that, they need to be able to write just one paragraph. This resource scaffolds your students through everything they need to start writing a paragraph!

This resource begins with your students gaining knowledge about what paragraphs are and then analyzing sample paragraphs to learn the different parts. Students will explore topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences of paragraphs. Then they will begin looking at each of those individually through a variety of activities (that are differentiated!) to help them work their way up to the culminating activity of creating a "paragraph sandwich."

What Concepts & Skills are Covered?

  • Parts of a paragraph
  • Topic sentences, supporting details, & concluding sentences
  • Main idea of a paragraph

Printing Notes:

While I recommend printing in color and laminating materials for future use, it is not necessary. These materials print just fine in grayscale. I would suggest printing "as image" to avoid any potential issues. Additionally, download the resource to your computer, open it, and then print. Printing from your browser often creates problems.
