What educators are saying
Description
Year after year the Paper Chain Measurement Challenge is a second grade favorite!! They are always blown away they can take one piece of paper and make a chain that is so long it goes outside our classroom door! What they aren’t so aware of is the fact in creating this super long chain they are practicing critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and measuring skills.
I have done this for the past three year. Each year I have saved the measurements of each paper chain so students not only can compare measurement data of their classmates but also from former second graders.
Why you will love this product?
→ Students use their engineering skills.
→ Students have to problem solve and test out ideas.
→ Students practice measuring with different units.
→ Students can use how measurement units are related to figure out other measurements.
→ Students analyze and compare measurements including using median, mode and range.
→ It is set up do use each year so second grade classes use data from second grade classes from years prior.
In this unit you will find:
→ Teacher Tips setting up the Paper Chain Challenge
→ Recording sheets to keep track of a chain’s measurement in meters, feet, yards and centimeters
→ A class recording sheet for all paper chains
→ A data sheet to analyze the class’s chains including comparing them to paper chains made by former second grader
Are you and your students up to the challenge?
