This painting art lesson is perfect to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with middle school art students. The student will demonstrate knowledge of Papel Amate Bark Painting processes by simulating the color and texture of the paper and producing a visual representation of Papel Amate Bark Painting using similar colors, symbols and subject matter. The student will also explore the history of Papel Amate Paintings, and analyze unique characteristics and styles used by the artists of Latin America. The PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides can be shown to your students in class or remotely. The slides include standards (analyze and describe the significance of artwork from a selected group or culture to explain its importance to the population), objectives, vocabulary (folk art, subject matter, Papel Amate), step by step directions, criteria and printable rubric, student examples, history of the Papel Amate, discussion and critique questions and a YouTube video art tutorial to demonstrate steps and techniques. The lessons offers the perfect opportunity for students to learn about Hispanic countries across the world during Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15- October 15) or any time of the year!
