What educators are saying

My students really enjoyed using this resource. It helped them to focus in on the basic facts about the different planets they were researching. The reading comprehension passages were a great introduction to the different planets.
My fourth graders loved this activity. This is the second year using this resource! teaches them so much about each of the planets!

    Description

This bundle about the planets will help you integrate science topics in to your reading instruction. Includes a set of reading comprehension passages and travel brochure report templates.

The Sun & Planets Reading Comprehension Passages

Includes 9 one-page informational passages (one for each planet plus the sun) followed by a page comprehension questions that mostly focus on cause/effect and compare/contrast. Students must refer back to the text to find the answers. Includes open-response questions, graphic organizer tasks, and a few multiple choice items.

There is also a set of 16 vocabulary cards containing words from the text. These can be used to pre-teach academic science vocabulary or discuss new words as they are encountered.

Graphic organizer can be used along with any of the passages to compare and contrast two different planets. It's a great way for students to summarize their learning or to organize their ideas before writing a compare/contrast piece

    Answer keys are included.

Space Travel Brochure Templates Research Activity

This is a set of templates to make brochures about each of the planets in our solar system (except Earth). They give students a structure to follow when doing research.

    Each tri-fold brochure covers:

    • location (order, distance)
    • characteristics (size, color, type, rings, moons, etc.)
    • environment (atmosphere, length of day/year, temperature, wind, etc.)
    • mission
    • name origin

The student will also calculate what their age and weight would be on the planet using calculators found online (with links provided).

    DIGITAL OPTION

This resource includes a digital version for use through Easel. This will allow you to assign the pages in your online learning platform for students to complete on any device. For more information on Easel Activities see this GETTING STARTED GUIDE.
