Description

The benefits of cooking with kids are countless, but a beginner reader really struggles to access recipes.

This recipe card is specially designed, using my read-to-cook method to make reading practice easy and delicious. It is for beginner readers so that they can use their growing phonics skills AND develop their cooking skills.

It can be used in the classroom or for parents at home.

How do I use this?

Included is a video tutorial on how to use the card. There is a list of ingredients, helpful hints on cooking with young kids, and also adult guidance notes.

You then can either print out the card for the children to follow or have it on a tablet screen.

Is there just one card?

There is one recipe, but with 3 different levels of reading. To help decided which one to try with the child I have included a 'reading stage checker' as a starting point to quickly work out which is the best point to start.

How is this different from other visual recipes?

Most other visual recipes will include pictures and then a line of text. This recipe (and all the recipes in my collection) uses a mix of visuals and carefully selected words that a child would be able to read (or have little support) at the very early stages.

Can I just leave the child to get on with it?

It is designed to help them be as independent as possible, however, as with anything in the kitchen supervision will still be required (just less hands-on from the adult).
