What age or grade level would you suggest this activity for?

This task card “Task Box Filler” set is intended for students with special learning needs within the following settings: Resource Room/Self-Contained Classroom/Inclusion Services/ELL Students

It’s hard to pinpoint an age group, but rather based upon the student’s abilities. If based upon standards or grade levels (and my own teaching experience), the activity should be introduced mid-to-late first grade up to 3rd grade. The teacher or assistant should initially work with the student to increase understanding of what needs to be accomplished, as well as for data collection purposes.

How will this enhance my student’s reading skills?

By reading to identify key details within the text, your students will look closely at the details shown in each picture. The activity allows students to focus on details in a “fun” way. Depending on you’re the students ability to read, focus on task, or provide responses, it is best to limit the number of picture response cards of 2, 3, or 4.

This “Task Box Filler” may ALSO be used as a sentence starter writing prompt activity at your writing center, or for independent work and inclusion writing skills.

Does this “Task Box Filler” come with an IEP Goal?

YES! Here is a suggested IEP goal which align to this activity!

· Given up to three sentences containing key details, STUDENT will read the text to match a picture out of a field of ___(# of) which represents the message in the text, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.

· Given up to three sentences and a picture, STUDENT will write up to ___(# of)

additional sentences to add to or complete the story, with 80% accuracy, in 4 out of 5 opportunities, by MONTH, YEAR.
