What educators are saying

I have used this bundle as part of my Basic Algebra curriculum to help reinforce the order of operations and computing skills. Lots of fun and variety of ways to deepen knowledge. Great resource!

    Order of Operations Activities Bundle

The following 6 resources are included in this bundle. Click the links to get a more detailed description and preview of each individual activity.

    1) Order of Operations Pyramid Sum Puzzle: Students complete a set of problems using the Order of Operations, then build a pyramid so that each solution is the sum of the solutions directly above it.

    2) Order of Operations "Cross-Number" Puzzle: Students work the problems and complete a puzzle that is similar to a cross-word puzzle, but with numbers.

    3) Order of Operations "Triples" Activity: These are 30 cards in which students use the order of operations in order to simplify. There are three cards with the same answer. I have them staple their "triples" together and put them in a bag.

    4) Order of Operations "Pluggin' Away" Relay: Students complete a stations relay to practice the order of operations. Each station will require them to fill in a box with the answer to the previous station. This places a huge emphasis on accuracy!

    5) Order of Operations "Spin to Win": This is a very dynamic Power Point game that is used with a Smart Board. Students click on the center of the wheel to start, let it go around a few times, then touch the center to stop. They select that dollar amount from the column on the left. If there is a repeat, I created a few questions per dollar amount, so they just click "next" to move to the next question. When you click “Answer”, the answer is revealed for them to check their work. I also included a worksheet for them to write down and solve the problems as they play the game.

Note – if you don’t have a Smart Board, this game can be played through a computer connected to a projector. Students would come up to the computer and use the mouse to click on the center to start/stop.

    6) Order of Operations "Math Lib" Activity!: Students choose expressions to simplify at 9 different stations, and create a story along the way.
