Description

If you love integrating several subjects to cover core standards, this unit is for you! It fits perfectly into third, fourth or fifth grade where you must teach opinion writing, the 10 Amendments of Bill of Rights in government as well as, report writing. You can also incorporate reading because the project is kicked off with a mentor text, "Sometimes People March," by Tessa Allen.

The first component of this product is about opinion writing and how to take a stand on an issue.

It includes:

  • Mentor Text suggestion, "Sometimes People March" by Tessa Allen
  • Mentor Text Discussion on the 1st Amendment of The Bill of Rights
  • Discussion ideas for brainstorming issues for opinion writing
  • Graphic Organizer slide for Taking a Stand opinion piece
  • Transition Words and Phrases slide for pulling together your opinion piece
  • Opinion Writing slides

The second component of this product is Activism Research. Students will choose a Movement, March or Key Figure to research. Research materials are not provided in this product. However, this product does include:

  • Directions for students
  • Movements, Marches and Key Figures List
  • MY 5 W's Research graphic organizer slide
  • Report Writing slides-two boys and two girl choices
  • Report Covers - to be used if reports are printed
