Description

Students will create an art design based on a form of abstract art that uses straight lines or geometric patterns to create a special visual effect that I call Op Art or Optical Art. The contrasting dark and light regions can, at times, appear to be in motion or to represent change in surface, direction, and dimension. I have used this project off and on in an Honors Geometry class over the past 20 years. It is one of my favorite projects because students are allowed to be as creative as they want. They seem to enjoy it as well. This project can be a fun project to do at the end of the year or after teaching students how to construct regular polygons using the formula to find each interior angle of a regular polygon.

Included with your download are the directions on how to use teach this project to your class, the rubric that I give students when I assign the project, and pictures of actual student projects that were submitted. I have included a Smart Notebook file that I use when I present the project as well as a pdf version.

Thank you for choosing my products. I do hope you will find them helpful and fun to use in class. Check out my store for other math projects and games, HS Math Fun with Practice. Enjoy! Please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions about the project.
