This unit uses the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck to learn about States of Mater and non-Newtonian substances.
Part One (Reading): First read the book by Dr. Seuss. Then have your students discuss the book, answer the comprehension questions, and fill in the worksheet about the two very important lessons that King Derwin learns in the story!
Part Two (Science): Now for the fun part….follow the directions to make Oobleck! I have included a scientific method sheet for your students to fill out as they conduct the Oobleck experiment. I have also included a Solids, Liquids, and Gases mini anchor chart and a Sir. Isaac Newton anchor chart.
After your students create the Oobleck and discuss their hypothesis….there is a reading article about Oobleck that tells them the truth! They will learn about non-Newtonian substances and why Oobleck is both a solid and a liquid…depending on the amount of pressure you apply to it!
This activity is sooo much fun! My kids really enjoy getting their hands messy and learning at the same time!
