What educators are saying

This is an amazing collaborative project that I used with groups of students. I love this resource and project. It has everything you need including a rubric and how to grade it!
Fabulous unit performance task. Fit perfectly with the end of our introductory unit in cultural geography

    Description

Keep your students engaged in your entire Physical Patterns in a Changing World Unit while they learn about different landforms, climate regions, vegetation regions, and water systems. The objective of this project and lessons is for students to use their Geographical knowledge to create an imaginary place as a culminating or summative project. All lessons, worksheets, project instructions, and rubrics are included.

Lesson slides have been created to help you introduce each section of the project. We like this project because you can build on it throughout the unit, rather than all at once, while intertwining other lessons in between. There are two different project options to choose from. Keep it simple and mark student responses, or have students create a pitch for land developers. Students have to convince the land developers to create their place.

    What's Included:

    • Teacher guides
    • 5 PowerPoint Lessons
    • Lesson Reflections
    • Optional Rubric to assess lesson reflections
    • Alternate activities for each lesson that are not connected to the Create a Place Project.
    • Two different project options
    • Two different mapping options
    • A project exemplar
    • Rubrics to assess the final product.

This project DOES NOT cover the entire curriculum, you are encouraged to consult your curriculum to ensure you have met all expectations (i.e. climate change, comparing land use, etc.).
