October Elementary Library Lesson Plans Overview and Editable Template

Are you ready to get your library curriculum lessons ready for October? And how about all of those 'other' tasks that come with managing a school media center! Let this FREE EDITABLE (pdf & ppt) resource curriculum map guide you through the fall.

This resource is intended to provide a framework for your lessons as well as the ongoing background tasks that keep your library working. All schools are different, and this is a flexible and editable product, but the basic design is for a Pre-K – 5th elementary school that uses the library with a fixed 30-40 minute weekly library period This can also be converted to Google Slides™.

How to use this resource:

• OVERVIEW pages are monthly and give a basic short plan for each grade level. Resources for the month are linked. They can be used or replaced with other products. Read-alouds can be listed here and set aside so that they will be available when needed. Standards are NOT included.
• OTHER area includes some of the background tasks that reinforce the library lessons.
• LIBRARY TASKS include sections for Library Lesson Prep, Library Maintenance and Library Management.
• WEEK 1-4 of each month have the suggested link, a short ‘plan’ of what to include in direct teach time, a place for read-aloud and a place for specifics of book checkout. A checklist of teacher completion helps to keep up with schedule interruptions. As with all the text, this can be deleted.
• GAP WEEK provides extra days to catch up and keep on schedule when you have had the inevitable interruptions to your library program.
