Description

Do you have students who have difficulty controlling their emotions and/or identifying their inner feelings? Many kids who struggle with self-regulation are unable to notice the sensations that they have for different emotions. Interoception (the "8th sense") relates to our inner senses, such as knowing how fast our heart is beating, whether we are hungry or full, or if we have butterflies in our tummies.

This interactive workbook teaches them different sensations they may notice in their bodies with different emotions. Once they are able to start noticing the sensations, they will be better able to self-regulate.

  • The first page of this workbook has characters depicting common emotions and gives the student an opportunity to draw their own.
  • The second page reviews different places in their bodies they may feel sensations, and gives sample sensations for each. There is a place at the bottom for them to write where they feel sensations and what they feel.
  • The third page teaches them how to take their heart rate, which is an important part of noticing their sensations.
  • The 4th page shows sample sensations and where they might be felt when one is frustrated
  • The next 4 pages give them an emotion (happy, nervous, sad, frustrated) and ask them to write what they notice and where. They have the option to decorate an body outline on each page.
  • The last page lets them choose the emotion that they want to review.

If you choose to use Easel, students can type their answers directly onto the document.
