As students prepare to engage with a variety of real-life narratives, they can learn about nonfiction organizational structures and structures of narrative texts. They can apply their knowledge to a variety of real-life narrative passages that explore diverse Canadian stories.

To prepare for the opinion piece, students can learn about persuasive writing and differentiate between main ideas and supporting details. They will also explore different types of supporting evidence that they can use for their opinion piece. They can practice opinion writing through peer-based learning before writing their own opinion essay.
