Description

This all-inclusive project has students create a visually-attractive product that requires them to express a 9-digit number (going to the hundred millions place) in multiple unique ways (standard form, word form, expanded form, on a number line, in a word problem, in a place value chart, and more if they can think of other ways).

Students pick a creative theme (see the samples) ranging from music to baseball and use that theme to make their mathematical creations come to life.

Included are very specific step-by-step instructions / requirements, a rubric for the math portion of the project and also the art and grammar/spelling portion, as well as three student samples to spur their creativity. The instructions and rubric are in PDF as well as Word format so you can edit to your unique needs.

This project can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days. Perfect for that neglected math bulletin board!

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
