    Description

Young learners make sense of their math world and numbers by talking about it! Number Talks give your K-2 kids ways to talk purposefully about numbers, addition, subtraction, fact families, true or false equations, shapes, linear measurement and data graphs. In this large number talks bundle you will find ALL of my number talk lesson slides, plus model lesson videos and planning guides!

ARE THESE PRINTABLE OR DIGITAL NUMBER TALKS?

BOTH! The file download is available in a pdf or powerpoint. You can print out the pdf and laminate and put on a ring to use math talks in small groups, intervention, or even to take advantage of those bathroom break minutes. You can also open the powerpoint file on your interactive whiteboard and use the digital powerpoint slides for a whole group digital number talk!

    WHAT ARE MATH TALKS?

Math Talks are a number talks routine to get students comfortable with sharing problem solving strategies, writing notation to match their thinking, and agreeing and disagreeing in math in a friendly way!

We sometimes call them math talks, because unlike number talks, math talks include talks about all kinds of math like shapes and measuring...not just cold numbers.

HOW IS THE POWERPOINT FILE SET UP?

The digital number talks powerpoint has a navigation menu to help you find the exact math talk you are looking for. It also has navigation buttons on each number talk slide to help you get back to the main menu. In addition, there is a blank slide after each image (dot/rekenrek/ten frame) math talk. When we do the number talks, I only show the image for 3 seconds and then click to the blank slide to force kids to visualize the image they saw to encourage subitization.

INCLUDED IN EACH MATH TALK SET

    • Teacher planning page that shows the category, goals, guided questions and strategies to look for
    • At a Glance pages to help you quickly find the math talk you need
    • printable PDF and digital number talk (powerpoint) images or equations
