Description

In this Patterns (Number) Math Mystery Activity: Case of The Poisonous Pizzas (GRADE 4), students will practice number patterns to solve who is poisoning the pizzas in Mathhattan!

Easy prep! Just Print & Solve! Or go paperless with the new Google Slides option provided within your download.

A video hook is provided to set the stage to engage! Check out the video hook in the preview section.

A bonus ENDING VIDEO clip is included to celebrate finishing the mystery.

Distance Learning Update: I've added a Word Document in the folder containing a Google Slides link to share this resource with your students via Google Classroom or Drive. Parts of the pages are editable, so your students can complete them without printing the pages. Please note you will need to make a copy of the Google Slides to your drive before you can edit.

An editable suspect list is included in the packet. You can change the character names and alter the mystery outcome. There are also two alternative pre-made lists you can use instead. This is a great option if your students have already done this mystery story before and you need to change the mystery answer.

Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.
