This resource includes more than 140 comprehension questions with composition prompts and 11 enrichment/project activities (including cross-curricular activities) for the book Northwind by award-winning and highly-esteemed author Gary Paulsen. The resource is provided as a printable PDF and as Google Slides™ for use in Google Classroom™. This is an inspiring adventure story set on northern shores, inlets, and seas. It is beautifully written and inspires appreciation for community, resilience, history, story-telling, individual gifts, diversity, and the world around us. Its lessons for conservation, nature appreciation, and preservation are important lessons across academic disciplines. This book is a perfect vehicle for interdisciplinary studies.

Northwind has received wonderful reviews from teachers who love this engaging and thought-provoking story. (I love the book and highly recommend it for a class novel study.)

  • This novel is appropriate for boys and girls. It is recommended for grades 4-6 and 10-14 year olds. These are suggested levels. I see it being used by 7th grade and 8th grade as well because of its relevance, themes, and life applications.

  • The questions are labeled by chapter for chapter-specific questions.

  • 11 enrichment/project activities included with this resource engage students in extended literary study, composition opportunities, and interdisciplinary applications.
